RECONTACTING STUDIOS
It has been about 3/4 weeks now since I first contacted Robot Food and Turn Key without hearing a response, and since these two studios are ones i'm really passionate about I decided to try message them again. Again I set up a couple of PDF portfolios with projects that I thought were most relatable to the studio and practice - Robot Food being packaging based and Turn Key very involved with the craft side of design.
I also changed my tactics of sending the email to see if that would get me a better response. Before I simply had 'Hello!' written in the subject line but I thought this might be too easy to skim past, to counteract this I added a new subject line 'Lets meet up' I thought this would add more interest and also might almost give the studios the impression that a client was wanting to 'meet up' with them and talk. I also sent the emails at a different time, this time I planned to send them on a Monday morning just before 9am so that when the studios open in the morning, my email would be at the top of their inbox.
Turn Key:
When emailing the studios again, I tried to make the email I was sending out a bit more personal, mentioning my love of craft and process to Turn Key.
Turn key got back to me on the same day! It seems that my idea of sending the emails to arrive in the inboxes just before 9am has been a successful idea, and one I will use again when contacting studios in future. However they did email me back saying that they don't have anything to offer me right now. However Turn Key is a studio with quite a few opportunities available for students and new graduates and so I will be emailing them again once my portfolio is fully finished.

Robot Food:
I also emailed Robot food, constructing a really personal email to them this time with the title 'Lets work together'. I was fearful about mentioning any type of work experience possibilities in my emails but, I know that Caitlin also on the course, had emailed asking for a placement and they replied really positively.
Again I got an email back on the same day, within 20 minutes of sending mine which was a really great response and it has proved that my method of contacting studios at this time is working. However they emailed me back to let me know that they are about to make a big move in summer and that they already have 3 interns lined up. This is a shame as i emailed 4 weeks ago and if they had seen my email back then, maybe I would have got in before someone else. But at least I have learnt a good method of sending emails now for future reference.
