SELF PROMOTION.
Although I already know what im putting in my box,
- Business card.
- 2 wooden coasters.
- Creative CV.
- Mini portfolio.
Today I started sketching up ideas for the packaging of my piece. As I am very involved with and enjoy creating tactile pieces of design I had the idea to create my packaging out of wood. Much like the coasters I am creating I would like to relief print onto these.
Using the coasters as the maximum size of anything that will be placed into the box I up with a design that would fit around these measurements.
The box is a simple square shape which will be constructed of wood. The box houses a simple lid which can be easily opened and closed on a hinge. The box will measure 151mm or 163mm depending on the thickness of the outside wood. Whichever the hinge is most successful on is width I will pick.
The box will mainly display a wood texture on every surface apart from the top which I will screen print with the same design as what is on the business card. To be most efficient I will paint the gradient mint colour onto the lid of the box, and then screen print the white typography on top.
The space inside the box will house two smaller boxes, or more so trays, the trays will be made to fit snug within the inside of the box. The top tray will have space for the two coasters I am designing and the business card on top. The box underneath will harbor the mini portfolio and the creative cv I will be designing. Once the coasters are removed, the top tray can then be pulled out to reveal the tray underneath.
The business card will be slotted into a piece of card using the method below. The piece of card will have flaps on which will be made to create the shape of an upside down tray, which then can be slotted into the top tray. and so the card with business card slot will be flush with the top of the wooden box.
Below is an image of the first thing the user will see when the box is opened. The business card will be on level with the top of the box.
The piece of white card holding the business card can then be pulled out an removed to reveal the stack of two coasters underneath.
The top wooden tray can then be removed to reveal the bottom wooden tray which will house the creative cv and the mini portfolio.
